No. 20 Indians drop season opener at No. 11 Meridian, 8-1

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The No. 20 Indians dropped their season opener at No. 11 Meridian 8-1 on Tuesday.

Roberto Valadez (New Albany) picked up the lone point of the day for the Indians when he defeated Callan Shinall 7-5, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.

David Garcia-Perez (Madrid, Spain) fell to No. 50 Marko Puric 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles action while Ezra Blissard (Houston) dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to No. 35 Lachlan Ivulich in No. 2 singles play.

Edson Marchant (Haleyville, Ala.) lost 6-0, 6-3 to Zackery Persnall in No. 4 singles. In No. 5 singles play, Michael Crotts (New Albany) dropped a hard-fought 7-5 decision in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second set. Blake Gregory (Pontotoc) fell 6-1, 6-3 to Ethan Clopton in No. 6 singles action.

Blissard and Crotts fought to the bitter end in a 9-7 loss to Shinall and Puric in No. 2 doubles play.

In No. 1 singles play, Garcia-Perez and Marchant lost 8-3 to No. 14 doubles player Ivulich and Will Swindoll. Gregory and Valadez dropped an 8-4 decision to Max Mauney and Clopton.

ICC will travel to Goodman to face Holmes Community College on Saturday.
