FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's tennis team dominated Northeast Mississippi Community College in the rivalry showdown Tuesday, winning 9-0.

The Indians started the day with a clean sweep in doubles action led by a 8-0 win in the No. 1 slot by David Garcia Perez (Madrid, Spain) and Ezra Blissard (Houston).

Chris Shands (New Albany) and Brendan Jobe (Corinth) won No. 2 doubles 8-1 and the dup of Michael Crotts (New Albany) and Roberto Valadez (New Albany) finished the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory.

After taking a 3-0 lead, the Indians cruised the the 9-0 victory as they held Northeast to winning only 11 games over the 12 singles matches.

Garcia Perez took No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Jobe followed in the No. 2 slot with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

Blissard won the No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-3 and Shands shut out his opponent in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Valadez won his match 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot. 

Russell Applewhite (Amory) paired up with Crotts to complete the shutout as the played one set each in No. 6 singles and both won 6-0.

The Indians improve to 6-4 this season and will travel to take on Jones County Junior College Friday, March 31. The matches in Ellisville will start at 1 p.m.
