Indians defeat Northwest in double overtime thriller

Senatobia, Miss. – A last second Irvin Rodriguez (Pelham, Ala.) goal in regulation and a golden goal from Lando Nichols (Chelsea, Ala.) gave the Indians a thrilling 2-1 double overtime win over Northwest Tuesday to remain unbeaten.

The Indians (6-0, 4-0 MACJC North) controlled possession for most of the contest and had numerous shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of net, while Northwest took advantage of a rebound off a free kick opportunity to take a 1-0 lead at the 50th minute.

With time winding down and the Indians down to their final chance, Rodriguez took a pass from David Marquez (Madrid, Spain) and beat the keeper for the equalizer with 45 seconds left in regulation.

The first overtime was scoreless, but two minutes into the second overtime period, Nichols scored the golden goal off an assist from Rodriguez.

Alex Box (Amory) grabbed three saves and improved to 6-0 this season in net.

The thrilling win put the Indians at a perfect 4-0 at the end of the first half of the North Division section of their schedule. Next up for the Indians will be a string of non-division games, before returning to division play Oct. 1 when Holmes visits Fulton.

Saturday, the Indians will host Mississippi Gulf Coast and kickoff is schedule for 3 p.m.
