Indians hang on to beat Pearl River, 3-2

FULTON, Miss. – The soccer teams split a non-division doubleheader with Pearl River Community College on Wednesday. The Lady Indians dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime while the Indians held off a late rally to pick up the 3-2 victory.

Alexis Resendiz (Horn Lake) continued his hot play scoring his third goal of the week off an assist from Logan Little (Tupelo) in the 25th minute. Brendan Koehn (Amory) put the Indians on top 2-0 off a nice assist from Cesar Perez (New Albany).

The Wildcats made it a 2-1 match in the 69th minute but the Indians answered moments later when a shot by Koehn deflected off a Pearl River player to get by the keeper for the goal. Pearl River caught the Indians napping on defense and found the back of the net off a header to make it 3-2 in the 74th minute.

Leading by one goal, Garrett Parish (Caledonia) made the play of the game when he kept a for sure Wildcat goal out of the net with a great effort in the 87th minute. He made a similar play to help in an open net situation in the first half.

A Pearl River free kick and two shot attempts later, the Indians survived a furious rally by the Wildcats to hang on for the one-goal victory.

The Indians improved to 5-3-1 on the season and will travel to Mississippi University of Women Sunday at 2:00.
