FULTON, MS – An intense match between the Itawamba Community College men's soccer team and Hinds Community College came down to the wire Wednesday, but the visiting Eagles held off a strong comeback run by the Indians to pick up the 3-2 win.
The Indians (7-7, 2-4 MACJC North) fell behind early in the North Division showdown as Hinds drew first blood at the 8th minute and extended their lead to 2-0 at the 22nd minute.
Cameron O'Daniel (Tupelo) put the Indians on the board with a goal off an assist from Logan Little (Tupelo) at the 33rd minute to cut the Eagles lead to 2-1 before halftime.
During the second half, the intensity increased in the one goal match, but the Eagles found the back of the net at the 66th minute to extend their lead to 3-1.
The Indians were down but not out and pulled within one goal at the 85th minute when Colby Bogle (Tupelo) connected with Josh Bartlett (Chelsea, AL) who drove the ball home.
In the closing minutes the Indians had chances, but the Eagles defense was able to hold on to win the hard fought contest, 3-2.
The Indians tough loss doesn't hurt or help their playoff hopes, but does put them in must win situations for the final two matches. Next the Indians will host Holmes Community College Tuesday.
