FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer team held on to pick up a 6-4 win over the Oxford College at Emory University squad in an offensive battle Saturday.
The Indians (7-5, 2-2 MACJC North) wasted little time finding the back of the net as Logan Little (Tupelo) scored in the first minute of play and Michael Kiser (Olive Branch) extended the lead at the ninth minute.
D'Antae Bush (Starkville) picked up assists on the opening two goals, but Kiser didn't need any help on the third goal of the match as he beat the keeper at the 17th minute.
Colby Bogle (Tupelo) put the Indians ahead 4-0 with his goal at the 28th minute off an assist from Luis Garcia (Olive Branch).
Trailing by four, Oxford-Emory rallied for two goals before the close of the first half to cut the Indians lead to 4-2 at the break.
Scoring didn't come as quick in the second half as the first goal wasn't netted until the 70th minute. However, that goal cut the Indians lead down to 4-3 with 20 minutes remaining.
Just when the Indians needed an insurance goal, Kiser netted his third goal of the match at the 74th minute to extend the lead back to two points.
At the 84th minute, Oxford-Emory cut the lead down to one again, but Josh Bartlett (Chelsea, AL) found the back of the net in the final minute of play to give the Indians the 6-4 victory.
Next up for the Indians is a MACJC North Division showdown with East Central Wednesday in Fulton.
