RIDGELAND, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer team netted three goals in the opening half, propelling them to a 3-1 MACJC North Division road win over Holmes Community College Friday.
After starting division play 0-2, the Indians (5-3, 2-2 MACJC North) knew their match against the Bulldogs was huge to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Indians came out firing quick and scored the game's first goal at the 17th minute off the foot of Logan Little (Tupelo).
It didn't take the Indians long to add to their lead as Luis Garcia (Olive Branch) found the back of the net off a ball by Chase Huddleston (Tupelo) at the 19th minute.
Holmes wasn't going to go down without a fight and pulled within one with 17 minutes left until halftime. However, the Indians were able to extend their lead back to two as Cameron O'Daniel (Tupelo) beat the keeper off an assist from Michael Kiser (Olive Branch).
The Indians held their 3-1 lead until the Bulldogs found the back of the net with 10 minutes left in the match. The late strike wouldn't be enough though, as the Indians held on to pick up the 3-2 victory and move into a tie with East Central for third place in the North.
Next for the Indians is a non-division road match with Meridian Tuesday at 7:00 pm
