FULTON, MS - The ICC Indian men's soccer team went into their North Division match with Holmes hoping to be back at the top of the division. Hope quickly became reality as the Indians defeated the Bulldogs 5-0.
It didn't take long for the Indians (5-1, 2-1) to find the twine as Blake Lashlee (Olive Branch) scored off a rebound of a blocked hard shot by Anthony Fernandez (New Albany). Despite the early goal, the Indians were in a battle as they held their 1-0 at the break.
The Indians, who were unable to capitalize on a few good scoring opportunities in the first half, had things start going their way in the second half. Justin Gordon (Starkville), Evan Thomas (Amory), Fernandez and Lashlee all beat the keeper for goals to extend the Indians lead to 5-0. Fernandez had two assist in the match while Dylan Howard (Starkville), Karter Porter (Olive Branch) and Lashlee each had one assist.
The 5-0 win put the Indians in sole possession of first place in the North Division. Before returning to division play, the Indians will have some tough non-division competition as they face Faulkner, Co-Lin, Meridian and Bethel. The Indians will return to North Division play on October 7 when they travel to Northwest for a battle with the Rangers.
