FULTON, MS - Sophomore Dylan Howard score a pair of second-half goals to help the Indians remain unbeaten on the season with a 2-1 victory over Jones County Junior College on Tuesday.
"I was proud of the fight the guys played with in the second half," said Coach Mike Sullivan. "We were aggressive early, but the Jones' keeper did a great job to keep us from being able to take advantage of some good scoring opportunities."
Trailing 1-0, Howard (Starkville) found the equalizer on an indirect set piece after the Jones keeper picked up a back pass and later scored the go-ahead goal inside the 84-minute mark after weaving his way through a pair of Bobcat defenders.
"Dylan did an outstanding job creating scoring opportunities," said Sullivan. "I thought the guys did a good job keeping calm and not forcing the issue after we missed some early scoring opportunities."
Graves Marshall (Corinth) and Kit Huddleston (Tupelo) each had an assist in the game. Defending MACJC Keeper of the Week Ben Schaefer (Tupelo) stretched his scoreless minutes in net to 135 while making two saves in the first half before freshman John Nabors (Tupelo) took over in the second half to allow one goal while making a pair of saves.
The Indians (2-0, 0-0 MACJC North) will travel to Meridian Community College on Friday before returning home for a pair of home matches next week against Southwest Mississippi Community College on Tuesday and will open division play on Friday against Northwest Mississippi Community College.
