POPLARVILLE, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer team picked up an impressive 2-1 road win in a friendly against the defending MACJC champion Pearl River Community College Bobcats on Tuesday.
The Indians fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but got the equalizer at the 15-minute mark of the second half when Anthony Fernandez (New Albany) scored off an assist from Dylan Howard (Starkville).
"It took us longer than I expected to answer the bell," said Coach Mike Sullivan. "I was proud of the guys' attitude despite being down at the half and how they responded to that going into the second half of play."
Five minutes later, Kit Huddleston (Tupelo) was fouled in the box and Evan Thomas (Amory) converted the penalty kick to give the Indians the eventual 2-1 victory.
"We didn't play our best, but we finally got to play someone other than ourselves to see where we were as a team heading into regular play," said Sullivan. "We came away with answers to some of the questions we had and getting a come-from-behind win made this a great trip for us."
ICC will open the regular season against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday. The Indians will take the pitch at 3:00 after the Lady Indians' 1:00 p.m. match. Both matches will be broadcasted on LetsGoICC.com.
