ELLISVILLE, MS -- The Indians dropped a hard-fought 1-0 road decision to Jones County Junior College on Friday.
"This was a really good test for us," said ICC head coach Mike Sullivan. "Jones is a team that is always in the mix for the state championship and today helped our guys see what it takes to play at a championship level."
Neither team could manage many shots on goal in the early stages of the game, but JCJC took advantage of an ICC miscue on defense to take a 1-0 late in the first half.
"We just had a mental let down," Sullivan said. "We left a guy open on the back post and Jones made us pay for our mistake like a top-notch team will do."
The Indians (1-1; 0-0 MACJC North) amped up their defense in the second half to create numerous scoring opportunites, but could not find the back of the net throughout the half allowing the Bobcats to earn the one-point victory.
"We've just got to put today behind and take what we learned from the game to help us continue to get better as we approach division play," Sullivan commented.
The Indians will return home against Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Tuesday.
