HANCEVILLE, AL – It's rare that coaches are happy with anything less than a victory, but such was the case for the Itawamba Community College men's soccer coaches after the Indians tied perennial power Wallace State 1-1 on Tuesday.
"We are improving each week and that's what we want to see out of our players as coaches," said ICC head coach Mike Sullivan. "We had our chances, but just wasn't on top of our game to come away with the win."
The Indians (1-2-1, 0-0 MACJC North) saw an unlucky roll help Wallace State take a 1-0 lead when a Lions' shot hit the post and rolled back across the line in the 14th minute of the first half.
Sophomore Estevan Garcia (Corinth) slotted away a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 with 25 minutes left in the match and freshman Keeper Ben Schaefer (Tupelo) was solid in goal down the stretch to help Indians earn a 1-1 tie.
"There are tons of positives to build on and some negatives to improve on too, but hopefully we can keep working hard to continue to get better as the season goes along," said Sullivan.
The Lady Indians (0-2-1) will join the Indians as they open North Division play Friday on the road in Goodman, MS against Holmes Community College at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
