Indians finish 10th in opening event of the season

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Derrall Foreman Invitational helped the Indians see where they stand and where they need to improve to be more competitive when it comes to the 2021-22 MACCC golf season.

The Indians turned in a 300 for a three-round, two-day total of 897 (+33) to finish in 10th place. Central Alabama led from start to finish and earned the win with a 797 (-67) for the tournament.

Shawn Cox (Little Rock, Ark.) entered the final round of play tied for 22nd and shot an even round of 72 to finish tied for the same spot with Diego Leslie of Meridian. Landry Miller (Florence, Ala.) also cared a 72 (E) on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th five other players.

Trace Sonnier (Vancleave) continued to improve on his opening day 83 with a 76 (+4) to finish 56th. Hughes Powell (Tupelo) carded an 83 to finish 57th and Hayden McCostlin (Bruce) shot an 82 to finish 58th.

Gulf Coast's Alessio Graziani earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 196 (-20) for the tournament.

The Indians will participate in the Hinds Fall Invitational September 25-26 at Eagle Ridge in Raymond.
