Indians finish 6th in NJCAA District Preview tournament

CANTON, Miss. – Freshman Landry Miller (Florence, Ala.) cared a single round 78 (+6) to finish tied for 10th place in his first collegiate tournament at Deerfield Golf Club in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District D Preview on Monday.

Deerfield, a qualifying site for the PGA's Sanderson Farms event, proved to be a tough challenge as the Indians shot a combined 337 (+49) to earn a tie for sixth place. Gulf Coast turned in a 302 (+14) to claim the top spot in Canton. Ethan Dyess of Meridian shot a 71 (-1) to take home medalist honors on the day.

Miller started his morning with a bogey on 13 and pulled even three holes with a birdie on the 493-yard par-five sixteenth. A pair of bogeys on 11 and 18 sent Miller to the turn with a 38 (+2) as the wind and rain starting to pick up. After a bogey on the 143-yard par-three third, Miller bounced back with a birdie on the 488-yard par five fourth. A double bogey on eight mixed with a pair of bogeys on six and nine completed his day at six-over.

Luke Dolan (Florence, Ala.) carded an 82 (+10) to finish tied for 21st with Chase Wilkinson of Gulf Coast. Braxton Kesler (Saltillo) shot an 88 (+16) to earn a spot in a four-way tie for 28th while Eric Massey (Pisgah) was a stroke out of joining the group with an 89 (+17). Hayden McCostlin (Bruce) finished the day with a 90 (+18) and tied for 35th on the day.

The Indians are scheduled to be back in action next week for the first conference event of the season hosted by Northeast at Shiloh Ridge on Oct. 28-29.
