MERIDIAN, Miss. - The golf team carded a team 312 (+24) on Day 1 of the Meridian Invitational at Briarwood Country Club to finish fourth after the opening round of the two-day event.
Brandon Barrett (Tupelo) turned in a 76 (+4) to earn a six-way tie for eighth place. Garrett Moore (Southaven) finished tied for 14th after firing a 77 (+5) while Hunter Lucas (Belmont) went into the clubhouse with an opening-round 79 (+7). Art Thompson (Columbus) carded an 80 (+8) for sole possesion of 24th and Dean Garrett (New Albany) finished the day tied for 26 at 82 (+10).
Meridian's Mitchell Fifer and Gulf Coast's Brice Wilkinson sat atop the leaderboard with a 68 (-4) on Monday. Gulf Coast leads the team standings at 289 (+1).
