Golf finishes in second place at the ICC Invitational

AMORY, Miss. – The ICC golf team finished second in the Itawamba Invitational played at Ackia Golf Club in Amory on Tuesday.

The Indians carded their best round in recent memory, carding a two-day team total of 295, and finished nine strokes ahead of Meridian Community College to earn the second place finish with a two-day total of 593 (+17)

Dean Garrett (New Albany) earn his second Top 10 finish of the season, finishing in seventh place with a 147 (+3) after finishing with a 73 (+1) on Monday and a 74 (+2) to close out the tournament on Tuesday.

Garrett Moore (Southaven) and Hunter Lucas (Belmont) each finished tied for ninth with a 149 (+5). Moore fired a 77 (+5) to open the tournament and rebounded to jump up nine spots on the leaderboard with an even round of 72 on Tuesday. Lucas carded a 75 (+3) on Monday and closed with a 74 (+2).

Brandon Barrett (Tupelo) turned in back-to-back rounds of 75 (+3) to finish the tournament tied for 12th at 150 (+6). Art Thompson (Columbus) struggled on the final day of play to finished tied for 19th with an 81 (+9) after going into the clubhouse with at 75 (+3) on Monday.

Defending national champion Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College won the tournament with a 560 (-16) with a pair of Bulldogs in Brice Wilkinson and Jon Hopkins finishing tied for the top spot on the leaderboard at 139 (-5) for the tournament.

The Indians' B Team finished in sixth place with a 659 (+83) for the tournament.

Parker Humber (Tuscumbia, Ala.) was the low man for the B Team finishing tied for 19th at 156 (+12). Tyler Cheslak (Southaven) earned a tie for 26th at 157 (+13) while Wilson Gammill (Ackerman) finished 33rd at 166 (+22) and Parker Brown (Oxford) 34th at 190 (+46).

The Indians will be back in action on October 29-30 as they travel to Gulfport to participate in the Gulf Coast Invitational at Windance Country Club.
