Defense leads Indians to fifth-straight win

FULTON – A strong defensive performance by Itawamba Community College's men's basketball team ensured their 69-48 win over Bevill State, their fifth-straight victory this season, Thursday night at the Davis Event Center.

ICC turned up the defensive pressure, holding the Bears to only five second half points with 8:30 left in the game. The Indians had 11 blocked shots, the most on the season as a team. MJ Smith (Prairie) had a team-best six blocks while Tycen McDaniels (Columbus, Ga.) added two. The Indians also had 11 steals with Dayveun Anderson (Tupelo) leading with four and Smith with three.

Anderson and Bryson Dawkins (Ozark, Ala.) led the Indians with 12 points each, and Chris Minton (Indianola) and Smith each had nine. Minton's points all came from his three three-pointers, which led the team.

The Indians (5-1) will play again Saturday when they travel to Marion, Ala. for a 3 p.m. meeting with Marion Military.
