No. 23 Indians fall in battle with Southwest

Fulton, Miss. – No. 23 Itawamba Community College men's basketball dropped a 78-72 decision in a tough conference battle with Southwest Mississippi Community College Thursday night.

The Indians (18-3, 8-2) were locked in a tight battle from the start but were able to take a slim, 37-35 lead in halftime.

Southwest took the lead after the break and the Indians trailed for most of the second half. However, George Marshall (Jackson) drained a three-pointer with two minutes left to tie the game at 72-72.

In the final two minutes, the Indians suffered turnovers and had some unfavorable foul calls, allowing Southwest to pick up the 78-72 win.

Gemari Marshall (Jackson) led the Indians offense with 17 points, followed by Josh Lee (Canton) with 16 points. George Marshall finished with 15 points and Chris Minton added 10 points.

The Indians are now tied for the top spot in the conference with East Mississippi, who they host next Thursday, but will travel to Wesson Monday for a big conference battle with second place Copiah-Lincoln at 6 p.m.
