Defense sparks Indians win at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The Indians' strong defensive presence sparked the offense in their 78-59 win at Mississippi Delta on Thursday.

The Indians (11-1, 1-0 MACCC) turned up the defensive pressure on the Trojans (3-9, 0-1 MACCC) to take a 24-16 lead midway through the first half. Delta would make it a two-point deficit before the Indians answered to take a 32-24 lead at halftime.

The Indians opened the second half on a 10-4 run before taking their largest lead of the night, 63-39, at the 8:17 mark of the second half. Kolby Horace put the exclamation mark on the game with a steal and one-handed jam to put the Indians up 69-49 with 2:42 left in the game.

George Marshall scored a game-high 18 points while adding six assists and grabbing eight rebounds. Gemari Marshall added 14 points and six assists, Josh Lee scored 13 and Rock Robinson added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.

The Indians will be back in action when they host rival Northeast (10-3, 1-0 MACCC) on Monday. The Tigers opened the season with an 82-70 win over Hinds. The First American National Bank opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the Davis Ford Pregame Show will come your way at 5:20 p.m.
