Indians take down Trojans to open season

Fulton, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College men's basketball program started the season with a 99-91 win over Mississippi Delta Community College Tuesday night.

The Indians (1-0) fell behind early in the contest but big dunks by Jaden Webb (Olive Branch) and Eddie Page (Atlanta, Ga.) helped put the momentum in their favor. With momentum on their side, the Indians battled with the Trojans and held a slim 40-38 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Indians extended their lead and were up by 15 points, 77-62, midway through the half.

The Trojans battled back to cut into the lead, but the Indians held off any and all comeback attempts to pick up the 99-91 season opening win.

The trio of Josh Lee (Canton), Kolby Horace (Spanish Fort, Ala.) and Gemari Marshall (Jackson) led the Indians, who shot 55 percent from the field, with 15 points each.

Rock Robinson (Pontotoc) added 13 points, followed by Webb with 12 points. George Marshall (Jackson) rounded out the scoring with 10 points.

The Indians will travel to Huntingdon College for their first road test of the season this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against the Hawks' JV team.
