Indians fall to Northwest on buzzer beater

Fulton, Miss. - Itawamba Community College men's basketball suffered a heartbreaking loss to Northwest Mississippi Community College Monday night as the Rangers hit a full court buzzer beater to pick up the 52-49 win.

The Indians (9-7, 3-6 MACCC) led for most of the contest and held asa 39-25 advantage at halftime. However, poor shooting in the second half allowed the Rangers (13-5, 6-4 MACCC) to make a comeback and take the lead.

With under five minutes to play, the Rangers extended their lead to six, 49-43, but the Indians rallied to tie the contest at 49-49 with under a minute to play.

The Indians took a shot in the closing seconds that was off target and Northwest's Isaiah Gaines grabbed the rebound and threw the ball the full length of the floor to hit the buzzer beating game winner.

Fred Cleveland, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) led the Indians with 14 points, followed by Daniel Mayfield (Toccoa, Ga.) 11 points. Gaines paced the Rangers with 21 points.

The Indians will travel to Sumimt Thursday for a conference game against Southwest Mississippi Community College with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
