Indians hold on to defeat East Central

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College men's basketball held off a late charge from East Central Community College to pick up a 60-57 conference win Thursday night.

The Indians (9-3, 3-2 MACCC) took a lead late in the first half on a basket from Dashun Berry (Houlka) and extended it to a 37-29 lead by halftime.

A Fred Cleveland, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) three-pointer early in the second half gave the Indians a 10-point lead and Tyronn Mosley (Chicago, Ill.) gave the Indians' their biggest lead of the night, 54-40, with just under 10 minutes to play.

However, the Warriors (4-6, 2-2 MACCC) increased their defensive pressure and rallied to cut into and eventually take a 57-56 lead with 1:35 left in regulation.

Walter Hamilton (Potts Camp) and Rock Robinson (Pontotoc) made four high pressure free throws to stretch the lead to three, but the Warriors were able to get off two three point attempts in the final seconds. Both shots were off target and Robinson pulled down a rebound to end the threat as the buzzer sounded.

Cleveland led the Indians with 18 points, and Hamilton picked up his second double-double of the week with a 17 point and 11 rebound performance.

The Indians will travel to Utica Tuesday, Jan. 18 for a conference game against Hinds Community College with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
