Indians defeat Northwest with second half comeback

FULTON, Miss. - The Indians overcame a 13-point second half deficit to rally past the Northwest Rangers to pick up a 70-65 victory on Monday.

ICC improved to 3-4 overall and in division play. Northwest fell to 3-4 overall and in division play. The two teams will square off again in the regular season finale on Monday, March 22 in Fulton.

After being held to only one point in the first half, sophomore Brandon Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 19 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 20 points.

With Brown sidelined due to foul trouble, Keyan Mims (Fort Mills, SC) stepped up and had a career night for the Indians. The freshman forward scored a season-high 14 points and grabbed XX rebounds.

A thunderous dunk by Shermontis Mitchell (Jackson) followed by a three-pointer as the shot clock ran out by Brown cut the Rangers' lead to 57-53 with 10:13 left in the second half.

The Indians completed the rally when Brown converted a three-point play the old fashion way to take a 60-59 lead with four ticks over 8 minutes left to play.

Tough defense and timely free throws down the stretch helped the Indians pull away for the five-point victory.

Rod Jones (Albany, Ga.) and Walter Hamilton (Potts Camp) each added 10 points in the win.

ICC will travel to Scooba to take on East Mississippi (5-3, 4-2 MACCC North) on Thursday.
