Indians defeat Mississippi Delta, 75-65

Fulton, Miss. – With the regular season winding down, the Indians are battling for a spot in the postseason and took a step closer to that goal with a 75-65 win over Mississippi Delta Monday night.

The Indians (8-11, 4-5) jumped out to a quick and early lead, but saw the Trojans bounce back and pull within one, 15-14, halfway through the first half. However, the Indians extended their lead to 11 by halftime, as they went into the break with a 33-22 advantage.

In the second half, the teams battled, and it was a one possession game numerous times. With 11:06 remaining, Kendricus Carlton (Batesville) had a big one-handed slam dunk that put the Indians up by four, 46-42, and extended the lead to 55-46 over the next six minutes.

The Indians were able to hold on to their lead despite the Trojans fouling and trying to mount a comeback.

Brandon Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) led the Indians with 15 points, followed by Rance Champ (Shannon) and Travonta Doolittle (Hughes, Ark.) with 13 points each, and Ma'Darius Hobson (Houlka) with 10 points.

With three games left in the regular season, the Indians are tied for the last postseason spot with Holmes, who they will face in the regular season finale. However, before that the Indians will travel to Coahoma Thursday and host East Mississippi next Monday.

Tip-off for Thursday night's game in Clarksdale is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. In their first meeting this season, the Indians defeated Coahoma 67-64.
