Indians fall to Northwest in division opener

Fulton, Miss. – In the MACJC North Division opener, Northwest pulled away late to pick up a 65-56 victory over the Indians.

For most of the game, it was a back and forth battle, but the Rangers were able to extend their lead at the end of both halves. The Indians (1-7, 0-1) led 19-18 with just under four minutes left in the first half, but trailed 30-23 at the break.

In the second half, the Indians went on a run that allowed them to tie the game at 53-53 on a Ma'Darius Hobson (Houlka) free throw with 5:22 left in the game.

Over the final five minutes, the Rangers held the Indians to three points to pull away and pick up the victory.

Brandon Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) led the Indians with 18 points, followed by Hobson who picked up a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rance Champ (Shannon) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points.

The next game for the Indians is scheduled for Saturday Jan. 4 at Volunteer State (Tenn.) with tipoff at 4 p.m.
