Indians defeat Coahoma to keep postseason hopes alive 

Fulton, Miss. – The Indians had three players score in double digits and one pick up a double-double to defeat Coahoma 63-52 and keep postseason hopes alive.

Rance Champ (Shannon) and Kendricus Carlton (Batesville) paced the Indians with 13 points each and Akeem Kirkwood (Weir) added 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his seventh double-double this season.

Halfway through the first half, the Indians (10-11, 4-6 MACJC North) held a 21-12 lead, but the Tigers rallied to tie the contest, 28-28, with just under two minutes until the break. Carlton put the Indians back on top with a lay-up with 1:15 on the clock, and the tribe extended their lead to 34-30 at the half.

Coahoma trailed by only four, 45-41 with eight minutes left in the game, but the Indians were able to pull away late to pick up the crucial division win.

The Indians are currently tied with Mississippi Delta for the fourth and final postseason spot in the the North Division and Northwest is one game back of forcing a three way tie. ICC and Mississippi Delta have two division games left in the regular season while Northwest wraps up Monday night with Holmes. 

Monday night the Indians will travel to East Mississippi, who is tied for first in division, and will host Holmes Thursday. Tipoff for both dates is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
