Improbable finish dooms Indians in loss to Baton Rouge

FULTON, Miss. – Baton Rouge scored five points in the final seconds of the game to steal a 72-70 from the ICC men's basketball team Tuesday at the Davis Event Center.

Kendricus Carlton (Batesville) hit a pair of free throws to put the Indians (5-6) up 70-67 with under 20 seconds remaining in the game. After a timeout, the Bears (2-12) saw Caleb Hebert get fouled while nailing a desperation three to tie the game. Hebert missed the ensuing free throw, but Terrance Dodson wrestled away the rebound and missed back-to-back put backs from point-blank range before getting the third attempt to go to take the two-point advantage.

Cartisco Brown (Indianola) raced the length of the floor and missed a rushed game-tying shot at the buzzer allowing the Bears to escape with the shocking victory.

Ma'Darius Hobson (Houlka) led the Indians with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Travonta Doolittle (Hughes, Ark.) added 16 and Akeem Kirkwood (Weir) scored 10 in the loss.

ICC will be back in action Thursday night when they host rival Northeast at 7:30. The game will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red and ESPN 95.1 the Fan (95.1 FM) starting with the Davis Ford Pregame Show after the conclusion of the women's game.
