Kirkwood named MACJC Player of the Week

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College freshman Akeem Kirkwood was named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week in a league announcement Tuesday.

The 6'3 guard from Weir had a career outing in the Indians' (5-5, 0-1 MACJC North) 2019 openerwith Gadsden State (Ala.) Community College Saturday in Fulton.

Kirkwood scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to complete his fourth double-double this season. He added four assists, two steals and two blocks in the 85-74 victory. The game was Kirkwood's eighth this season with 10 or more rebounds, but it was his effectiveness on offense that stood out, shooting a perfect 8-8 from the field and making 7-13 from the charity stripe.

Kirkwood and the Indians will face Baton Rouge (La.) Community College today at 4 p.m. in Fulton, and they will host MACJC North Division rival Northeast Mississippi Community College Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
