Indians hold off Mid-South to snap two-game losing streak

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians snapped a two-game losing streak with a hard fought 72-69 win over ASU Mid-South in the final home game of the 2018 half of the season.

The Indians (3-3) took a 34-29 lead into halftime and held off a late rally from Mid-South to hang on for the three-point victory.

Leading 66-64, Ma'Darius Hobson (Houlka) stole the ball and raced to the other end of the floor for a lay-up to give the Indians a four-point advantage with 2:43 left to play. The two teams traded baskets before Hobson grabbed an offensive rebound and found Akeem Kirkwood (Weir) open for an uncontested lay-up to give the Indians a three-point lead with 14.4 seconds left. Mid-South had an open three from the corner but Kirkwood blocked the shot with 4.4 seconds remaining after the ball went out of bounds. Mid-South's potential game-tying shot bounced off the front rim allowing the ICC faithful to celebrate the victory.

Hobson finished with game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Kirkwood added a career-high 17 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double performance of the year. Rance Champ (Shannon) came off the bench to score 11 points in the win.

Caleb Henry scored 14 points to lead Mid-South.
