Indians rally from 20 to beat Northeast, 91-88

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Trailing by 20 with just over eleven minutes remaining in the second half, the Indians pulled off one of the program's most impressive rallies in recent memory to pick up a 91-88 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College on Monday.

The Tigers (12-4, 3-2 MACJC North) took a 75-55 lead with 11:10 left in the game before a three by Brian Halums (Simmons) made it a 81-71 game in favor of Northeast at the 6:34 mark of the second half.

The Indians (7-6, 2-2 MACJC North) went on a 14-3 run to take an 85-84 lead on a lay-up by Joshua Greer (Jackson, Tenn.) before taking a 89-86 lead with thirty seconds left in the game. The Tigers clawed their way back to make it a one-point contest after a pair of missed free throws by Joseph Jones (Tupelo).

Greer scored 17 of his career-high 22 points in the second half. He also added a team-high 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Jones redeemed himself when he ripped down a rebound after a missed three by Northeast and nailed a pair of free throws to give the Indians a 91-88 lead with 2.6 seconds on the clock.

The Tigers' shot from beyond midcourt came up short and the Indians celebrated its improbable come-from-behind victory.

Halums finished the night with 20 points and 6 rebounds, Tre Jenkins (Tupelo) added 16, Jones 12, Eric Brown (Greenville) had 10 to round out Indians scoring in double figures.  

JaQuante Bell led Northeast with 27 points.

Next up for ICC will be East Mississippi Community College on Thursday night in Fulton. The Lady Indians tip things off at 6:00 and the Indians will follow at 8:00 p.m. Both games will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/RED.

It will be the fifth annual Pack the House Night at the Davis Event Center featuring Meet the Tribe during halftime of the women's and men's games. ICC alumni members and their families will receive free admission upon showing their Alumni Association ID at the gate. Area baseball and softball players wearing their team jerseys will be get free admission and a chance to get autographs from members of the ICC baseball, golf, softball, and tennis teams in the second half of the games.
