GOODMAN, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's basketball team opened MACJC North Division play on Monday with a gutsy 68-65 win over Holmes Community College.

The Indians (3-4, 1-0 MACJC North) didn't have their best shooting performance of the year shooting 37.5 percent from the floor, and trailed 31-28 at halftime.

Knowing they had to fight back in the second half, the Indians got two huge performances from their bench in Tre Jenkins (Tupelo) and Tommy McCoy (Woodville), leading the charge to outscore the Bulldogs 40-35 to pick up the three point victory.

Freshman guard Marcus Thomas (Pine Bluff, AR) was the Indians leading scorer with a season-high 17 points, despite sitting out the final seven minutes of the contest due to injury. Jenkins came off the bench and scored 11 points and McCoy finished with 10.

Bench Spark

With the starters not having their best night of shooting, the Indians bench stepped up in a big way accounting for 24 points.

Quality Points

The Indians were outrebounded 38-27 in the contest, but they were able to turn most of their 20 defensive boards into points.

Coming Home

After four consecutive road dates, the Indians will finally return to the Davis Event Center Wednesday to take on Wallace State Community College-Selma at 7:30 pm.
