Indians drop heartbreaker at Wallace-Selma, 67-66

SELMA, AL - The Indians opened the 2016-17 basketball season with the bitter taste of defeat after a 67-66 loss at Wallace State Community College-Selma on Tuesday.

A little pepper was added to some home-cooking when a questionable offensive foul was whistled against the Indians (0-1) and opened the door for a pivotal four-point swing in favor of the home team in final seconds of the game.

Gene Davis connected on four-straight free throws to give the Patriots (1-0) a 67-63 lead with 4.3 seconds left to play. The final free throw proved to be the deciding factor after Quenten Taylor (Edison, GA) drained a three as time expired.

Taylor finished the night with 9 points, 7 coming in the second half.

Freshman Tre Jenkins (Tupelo) paced the Indians with 14 points while Murray State transfer Charles Brown (New Orleans, LA) added 13 in the loss.

Davis led all scorers with 23 points while Zavieun Jackson added 15 for the Patriots.

Cold Spell

The Indians went to the free throw line 11 times and only managed to make 2 attempts. Wallace-Selma went 9 for 11 from the charity stripe, in the first half. The Patriots cashed in on 21 of 28 trips to the line on the night.

Change of Plans

A transformer blew on the Wallace-Selma campus causing the gym to lose power 15 minutes before ICC arrived on campus. The game was moved to Concordia College also located in Selma.

Road Warriors

Six of the Indians' first seven games are on the road. ICC will travel to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, located in Andalusia, Alabama, for a 7:30 tip on Thursday.

ICC's lone home game this month will be Monday, November 14 against national power Shelton State Community College.
