FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College's men's basketball program started the season with a dramatic win over Lawson State Community College Monday night, defeating the Cougars 67-65.

Sophomore forward Howard Thomas (Brandon) came out with the hot hand scoring 12 points the first half to led the Indians to a 34-26 lead at the break.

The Indians held the lead for most of the contest but trailed midway through the second half. However, big baskets by freshman Carter Sweat (Piperton, TN) and Martaveous McKnight (Walls) put the momentum back in the Indians favor.

A powerful dunk by Barri Hill (Jasper, AL) put the Indians on top for the last time as they held on to pick up the exciting win.

Thomas led the Indians with 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Hill with 13 and 10 rebounds, and LeDarius Woods (Tunica) had 12 points and 6 assists while McKnight and Sweat added 10 points each in the win.

The Indians return to the friendly confides of the Davis Event Center Thursday night as they host Snead State Community College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
