FULTON, MS – The defending MACJC Champions picked up where they left off last season, defeating Lawson State in dominating fashion, 77-59.

With an atmosphere that rivaled a playoff game, the Indians (1-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Indians started the game on a 20-5 run and were in control of every aspect of the game.

Austin Timms (Mooreville) added to the lead with a powerful two handed slam, sending the already electric crowd over the top. Just a few minutes later, Timms picked up an offensive rebound and slammed it home and the Indians were up 31-12. The Indians scoring pace slowed a bit as the half came to a close, but they held a 43-21 lead at the break.

Howard Thomas (Brandon) and Lakee Westbrook (Tupelo) had strong second half performances, and Barri Hill (Jasper, AL) highlighted the second half with his strong slam to extend the Indians lead to 63-37 with eight minutes left to play. The Indians continued to dominate until the final buzzer and picked up the season opening 77-59 win.

Thomas and Westbrook led the Indians with 15-points each and Timms finished one point shy of the double-double with 9-points and 12-rebounds.

The Indians will host Shelton State Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
