BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Itawamba Community College men's basketball team struggled shooting in their 73-46 road loss to Lawson State Community College on Saturday.

The Indians hit 15-of-46 (32.6%) from the floor and only managed to knock down 2-of-11 (18.2%) shots from behind the arch as Lawson State outscored ICC 42-19 in the second half of the loss.

"Credit Lawson," said ICC head coach Grant Pate. "They challenged us on defense and forced us out of our game with their up-tempo style of play. I thought we had numerous chances to get back in the game, but could never put together a run to get some confidence or momentum on our side."

Sophomore center Tre' Wells (Tuscaloosa, AL) paced the Indians with 10 points on the night.

"I thought Tre' fought hard all night," Pate commented. "It's really easy to hang your head or give up when things aren't going your way, but Tre' gave us that sophomore leadership we needed in this type of the game."

Freshman Chris Harris (Starkville) had 7 and Johnthan McGee (Jackson) scored 8 while sophomores Parris Jeans (Mooreville), Quintin Lee (Ripley, TN) and freshman Jacques Johnson (Jackson) added 6 points each.

"We got a good effort from everyone when they were on the floor, but we just couldn't get any shots to fall," Pate said. "We were rattled and I knew we were going to need a good start to the second half if we wanted to make a run, but when the shots weren't falling early on it got to us and really frustrated the guys."

Christopher Kingsberry scored a game-high 35 points for Lawson State.
