FULTON, MS -- Itawamba Community College men's basketball coach Grant Pate announced the signing of a pair of area standouts in Houston High School's Lazerick Pulliam and Devonta Fields of Tupelo High School.

"We are always excited about signing local guys that are familiar with ICC and our program," said Pate, who is in his first season as the Indians' head coach. "I feel like Lazerick and Devonta both have the potential to bring a lot to our program next season."

Pulliam averaged 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for Coach Bruce Franks and the Houston Hill toppers last season.

"Coach Franks does a tremendous job at Houston and Lazerick is a great example of their program," said Pate. "He is a hard-nosed kid that plays hard, handles the ball well and really has a knack for getting to the basket."

He scored a career-high 32 points against Noxubee County and scored double-digit figures in 19 games as a senior after averaging 15.5 points a game as a junior.

Fields averaged 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assist per game as a point guard for Coach Pate and the Tupelo Gold Wave men's basketball team that finished runner-ups in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A state basketball tournament.

"Devonta was a guy that was a really important part of our run to the 6A championship game," Pate said of his former player. "He's really got a lot of potential and a tremendous upside which makes us really excited about him being a part of our program next season."

He scored a season high 10 points against Pontotoc while shooting 40-percent from the floor and 60-percent from the charity stripe during his senior season.
