Indians overwhelm Coahoma in Clarksdale, 49-28

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – Freshman Clark Mills is beginning to settling into his role as starting quarterback for the Indians.

Mills (Ecru) threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns with an interception while rushing for 28 yards and another touchdown on eight carries in the Indians' 49-28 win at Coahoma Community College.

The Indians (2-2, 1-1 MACJC North) fell behind 14-7 at the 14:02 mark of the second quarter before scoring 28-unanswered points.

De'Sean Dinkins (Warner Robins, Ga.) scored on a two-yard run to tie the game 14-14 with 7:00 left in the first half before Mills hit Jamel Thomas (Caledonia) on a 60-yard pass the Indians a 21-14 lead at the break.

Hiram Wadlington (Oxford) found the end zone on a 48-yard run and Dinkins added a 1-yard run as time expired on the third quarter to give the Indians a 35-14 lead.

Dinkins rushed for 46 yards and two scores on seven carries. Wadlington had 73 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. ICC finished the night with 214 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 28 attempts.

The Tigers (0-4, 0-2 MACJC North) picked up a 9-yard touchdown pass to make it a 35-20 game after a failed two-point conversion but Mills answered with a 75-yard scoring toss to Cedric Bradford (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) to push the lead out to 42-20 with 10:14 left to play.

Coahoma tacked on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 2:11 left in the game but Qua Tucker (Dadeville, Ala.) spun off a would-be tackler and sprinted to the end zone from 48 yards out 13 seconds later to help the Indians pull away for the 21-point victory.

Defensively, the Indians were led by Cortez Davis. The Flowery Branch, Ga. native had 10 tackles (9 solo; 1 assists). Chris Shannon (Tupelo) and Tyrese Quinn (Calhoun City) each had an interception while the Indians totaled 21.5 tackles for a loss of 78 yards on the night.

ICC will host rival Northeast (1-3, 1-1 MACJC North) on Thursday. The Tigers dropped a 28-13 decision to No. 18 Holmes (3-1, 2-0 MACJC North) last week.
