Seven Indians earn postseason football honors

FULTON, MS – Seven members of the Itawamba Community College football program earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State honors while two also received National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region recognition when the league announced its postseason awards Monday.

Sophomore quarterback Dan Ellington (Olive Branch) and sophomore wide receivers Terry Williams (Southaven) and Christian Saulsberry (Southaven) were named MACJC First Team All-State.

Ellington was also named MACJC Offensive MVP as he finished the season with 3,211 passing yards while completing 230 of 353 passing attempts, throwing for 27 touchdowns and his 356.8 yards per game leads the NJCAA. On the ground, Ellington ran for 392 yards and picked up eight touchdowns. Ellington is the first Indian to throw for over 3,000 yards in a single season.

Williams finished the season with 1,095 receiving yards to become the Indians all-time leading receiver and picked up nine touchdowns. His 121.7 yards per game is second best in the NJCAA. Saulsberry played a big role for the Indians picked up 617 all-purpose yards and found the end zone twice.

Sophomores Jalyn Galmore (Batesville), Devan Hollins (Southaven), Jarvis Hayes (Slocomb, AL) and freshman Caleb Comer (Caledonia) were selected to the MACJC All-State Second Team.

Galmore anchored the offensive line that helped the Indians average 483.9 yards per game and score an average of 42.4 points per game.

Hollins and Hayes were two of the Indians' top performers on the defensive side of the ball as Hollins led the tribe with 71 tackles and Hayes finishing with 63. As a defensive back, Hollins picked up two tackles for loss including one quarterback sack and forced one fumble. Hayes picked up eight tackles for loss including four and half quarterback sacks and picked up three interceptions as a linebacker. One of Hayes' interceptions was returned for a touchdown and he also added a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Comer led the Indians in scoring with 68 points as the he made 44 extra points and eight field goals.

Ellington and Williams were both selected as member of the NJCAA All-Region 23 team offense and will be eligible for NJCAA All-American honors.
