Bender commits to Kansas

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College sophomore quarterback Peyton Bender took his official visit to the University of Kansas this weekend and committed to join the Jayhawks program.
Bender, who transferred to ICC from Washington State University, finished his lone season in Fulton passing for 2,733 yards while completing 211 of 324 pass attempts, highlighted by a 566 yard performance against East Mississippi.
The Fort Lauderdale, FL native threw 21 touchdown strikes in his nine games while only throwing four interceptions and being sacked only once.
Bender ended his sophomore campaign as one of the top quarterbacks in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and is in the top eight in five categories. His 211 completions is the third highest in the NJCAA and he sits in fourth for yardage and completion percentage (65.1%).
The 6'1 180 pound quarterback finished fifth in the NJCAA with 303.7 yards per game and eighth in passing attempts with 324.
During his visit to Kansas, Bender witnessed the Jayhawks upset the University of Texas 24-21, which was the programs first win over the Longhorns in over 75 years.
Bender is the first Indian to commit to the Jayhawks football program and plans to enroll there this spring.
