Former Itawamba Community College defensive back Ashton Ballard (Atlanta, GA) and the Valdosta State Blazers celebrated the program's third NCAA DII Football National Championship after defeating the Winston Salem Rams 35-7 on Saturday.
"We are extremely proud of Ashton," said ICC head football coach Jon Williams. "He is proof that hard work and dedication can pay off in big ways if you are willing to go the extra mile and do everything you can to reach your goals."
Ballard, a defensive back, recorded one tackle in the game and finished the year with 8 tackles and played in 11 of 14 games this season.
During his sophomore season at ICC, he recorded 27 tackles (23 solo), two tackles for loss, intercepted four passes and broke up five more in six games.
