New Chapter Begins: Lott named ICC Baseball head coach

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College has announced the hiring of Slater Lott as the new head coach of the Indians baseball program. Lott, widely regarded as one of the premier offensive minds and recruiters in junior college baseball, succeeds longtime head coach Rick Collier, who retired following a decorated 23-year career that included more than 700 wins and a lasting legacy at ICC.

Lott arrives in Fulton after a highly successful five-year stint at Pearl River Community College, where he helped lead the Wildcats to national prominence. His offensive philosophy produced some of the most potent lineups in NJCAA baseball, including a 2022 team that captured the NJCAA Division II National Championship and a 2025 squad that finished as national runner-up.

Under Lott's guidance, Pearl River was a consistent offensive powerhouse. His teams posted eye-popping numbers, including a .336 team batting average in 2022, 519 runs scored and 85 home runs. In 2024, PRCC ranked among the top 25 nationally in several categories, including third in home runs (85), third in extra-base hits (229) and sixth in slugging percentage (.569). Lott also coached standout players such as NJCAA Division II Player of the Year Tate Parker and MACCC Player of the Year Hollis Porter.

Lott's success extended beyond the stat sheet. From 2022 to 2025, he helped recruit Perfect Game's top-ranked classes four years in a row. His efforts were recognized in 2022 when he was named NJCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. During his time at PRCC, he coached over 10 All-Americans, three Gold Glove recipients and a host of conference award winners.

Before joining Pearl River, Lott served as the hitting coach at Delta State University, where he helped lead the Statesmen to the 2019 Gulf South Conference Tournament title and an NCAA DII South II Regional championship. While at DSU, his team tied a program record with a .967 fielding percentage. Lott began his coaching career at Meridian Community College, where he helped guide the Eagles to a national-best .368 team batting average in 2018.

A Mississippi native, Lott is a graduate of Clarkdale High School and earned degrees from Meridian Community College, Mississippi State University and Delta State University. He and his wife, Melissa, were married in 2018.

Lott takes over an ICC program with deep tradition, outstanding facilities and a strong support system. As he begins this new chapter, Lott is focused on building on the legacy of the program while pushing the Indians to compete at the highest levels in the MACCC and beyond.
