Indians drop a pair of games at Southwest

SUMITT, Miss. – The Indians struggled to come up with timely hits in a pair of loses at Southwest on Friday.

Game 1: Southwest Mississippi 7, Indians 4

Bo Rock cranked a two-run home run to right to give the Indians a 2-0 lead, but the Bears answered with a RBI double to make it a one-run game by the end of the first inning.

The Indians took a 4-1 advantage when Brock Ware scored when Hayden Roberts reached on a fielder's choice and Jackson Lee scored on a single by Jaxin Settlemires in the second. Once again, Southwest had an answer after scoring five runs on six hits and a sacrifice fly in the home half of the inning.

After combining to score 10 runs in the first two innings, neither team could manage a run over the next 4.5 innings.

The Wolves added an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI single and got back-to-back three up, three down innings to secure the win.

Settlemires and Brock Ware each had a pair of hits. Rock added a home run to the Indians' seven hit performance.

Dixon Webb was the pitcher of record after giving up six runs, five earned, on eight hits and no walks while striking out 1 in two innings.

Game 2: Southwest Mississippi 2, Indians 1

The Bears finished the sweep of the Indians with a 2-1 walk-off win on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of night.

Trailing 1-0, the Indians forced the game into extra innings when Roberts scored on a single by Treadaway.

Treadaway and Roberts each had two hits.

Eli Akins was the tough luck pitcher of record after giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits and six walks while striking out five in 8.2 innings of work.

The Indians are scheduled to step out of conference play when they travel to Snead State on Tuesday, weather pending.
