Indians split at Northwest-Shoals

SHOALS, Ala. – The Indians split a pair of road games with Northwest-Shoals on Saturday.

Game 1: Indians 2, Northwest-Shoals 1

Jarrett Morris grounded into a fielder's choice to score Bo Rock to give the Indians a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh.

The Patriots put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom half of the inning, but Ty Wicker got a pop out in foul territory to third and a routine pop out to second to secure the win and break the Indians' three-game losing streak.

Shoals took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Indians answered to tie the game in the fourth on a single by Stone Collier to score Jackson Lee.

Collier, Rock and Hayden Roberts each had a single as the Indians only managed three hits in the win.

Wicker picked up the win after giving up one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four in the complete game effort.

Game 2: Northwest-Shoals 6, Indians 4

After scoring four runs in the top of the eight, the Indians saw the Patriots plate four in the bottom half of the inning to earn the split with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Trailing 2-0 after seven complete, the Indians made it a 2-1 game when Jude Treadaway scored on a single by Jaxin Settlemires. Collier doubled to right to score Brock Ware to tie the game. Rock followed with a double of his own to plate Settlemires and Collier to give the Indians a 4-2 advantage in the top of the eight.

Shoals answered with four runs in the bottom half of the eighth to take a 6-2 lead. The Indians got the tying run on base but a double play by the Patriots shut the door on the Indians rally in the ninth.

Settlemires had two of the Indians' seven hits in the loss.

Tyler Yearwood was the pitcher of record after giving up four runs, none earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out one in six innings of work.

The Indians will be back in action when they host Coahoma in non-conference play on Thursday.
