Indians connect on 16 hits in win over John Wood

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Indians completed an impressive day on the diamond with a 15-4 win in six innings over John Wood at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn.

The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Indians answered with a two-run bomb off the bat of Jaxin Settlemires to make it a one-run game after one complete.

The Indians pulled even in the second on a single by Kaylan Powell that scored Jarrett Morris before going up, 4-3, after Powell scored when Jackson Lee reached on an error. The Blazers answered with a run in the third to tie the game.

Powell and Jude Treadaway scored on a single by Lee to put the Indians up 6-4 in the fourth.

The Indians put the game out of reach with a six-run fifth inning. Bo Rock smashed a two-run home run. Dre McCray scored on a double by Stone Collier, who scored on a hard-hit ground ball to center by Treadaway. Jackson Lee ripped a single to left to plate Treadaway. Ben Davis blistered a single on a line drive to left to score Lee and give the Indians a 12-4 lead after the dust finally settled on the inning.

Powell tripled to score Morris and Treadaway and invoke the mercy rule for the run-rule victory in six innings.

The Indians totaled a season-high 16 hits in the win. Lee, Davis and Treadawy each had three hits while Powell added a pair of hits and two steals.

Tyler Yearwood picked up the win after striking out two and walking one in three innings of scoreless and hitless action on the mound.

The Indians will travel to Goodman to face Holmes and Pearl River in non-conference play on Tuesday.
