No. 18 Indians end regular season with split at Jones

Ellisville, Miss. – Itawamba Community College baseball wrapped up the regular season Friday picking up a split with Jones College, winning game one 11-7 and dropping game two, 6-4.

Game 1: Indians 11, Bobcats 7

The Indians (33-11, 20-8 MACCC) rattled off 18 hits in the game and scored seven-runs in the top of the seventh to complete the 11-7 comeback win over Jones.

Bo Rock (Amory), who went 4-for-5, started the seventh with a solo home run to cut Jones' lead to 7-4.

After Gray Bane (Olive Branch) scored on a wild pitch, Matthew Martinolich (Ellisville) hit a two-run scoring single to tie the game at 7-7.

The Indians took the lead on a throwing error and extend it to on another wild pitch before Rock singled up the middle for his second RBI of the inning.

Another throwing error in the eighth, allowed an insurance run to score and put the Indians up 11-7.

Matt Bourdon (Collierville, Tenn.) threw seven innings of relief and allowed only five hits and one unearned run to improve to 3-0. Rock closed out the game and secured the win keeping the Bobcats off the board in the ninth.

Game 2: Bobcats 6, Indians 4

Ty Roberson (Ecru) had a big game offensively going 2-for-2 with two homeruns and driving in three of the four Indians' runs as they fell 6-4 in the nightcap.

Martinolich gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the third, scoring on a wild pitch, but Jones tied the game in the bottom half on a balk call with a runner at third.

Roberson hit his first home run of the game in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot to centerfield, but the Indians 3-1 lead was short lived as Jones scored two-runs on two hits in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at three.

Jones plated two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 6-3 advantage. Roberson led off the seventh with a solo home run, but that would be all the Indians would be able to push across as they fell 6-4.

The Indians have earned a postseason berth and will host the best-of-three NJCAA Region 23 postseason series next week. However, with games still to be played in the conference, the Indians' opponent has not been decided. Postseason game times and opponent will be announced here and on social media (@LetsGoICC) when they are finalized.
