Indians split with East Central

Decatur, Miss. – Itawamba Community College baseball went on the road and picked up a split with the conference leading East Central Warriors Sunday.

The Indians (27-9, 14-6 MACCC) rallied to pick up a 7-3 run in game one, but suffered a heartbreaking 11-9 extra inning loss in game two.

Game 1: Indians 7, Warriors 3

The Indians trailed 3-1 in the top of the ninth, but put together a rally to score six runs to pick up the 7-3 win in game one.

In the top of the ninth, Gray Bane (Olive Branch) hit a run-scoring single to cut the lead to one, and Matthew Martinolich (Ellisville) drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game.

The game didn't stay tied long as Will Verdung (Corinth) hit a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Indians the lead and the win.

Game 2: Warriors 11, Indians 9 (10-innings)

The Indians started game two with another six run inning as they took an early 6-0 lead in the top of the second, highlighted by an Eli Hancock (Houston) three-run home run.

Ty Roberson (Ecru) added a solo home run in the fifth and Jackson Lee (Calhoun City) singled in a run to score the Indians' eighth run of the contest. However, the Warriors scored four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie the game at 8-8.

The game remained tied until Jaxin Settlemires (Kossuth) led off the top of the tenth with a solo home run to give the Indians the one run advantage.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Warriors tied the game on a one out double and then hit a two-run walk-off home run to pick up the 11-9 win.

The Indians will return to Fulton Tuesday for a conference doubleheader with Mississippi Delta Community College with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
