Indians sweep Co-Lin

Goodman Miss. - Itawamba Community College baseball picked up a sweep of Copiah-Lincoln Community College scoring a combined five runs in the final innings.

In a doubleheader that was moved to Holmes Community College's stadium, the Indians (24-8, 11-5 MACCC) scored four runs in the top of the ninth to win game one, 10-6, and scored one run in the top of the seventh to complete the sweep with a 5-4 game two victory.

Game 1: Indians 10, Wolves 6

The Indians led for most of the contest, but the Wolves tied the game at 6-6 in the eighth. To prevent extra innings, Will Verdung (Corinth) singled in the go-ahead run and a two-run double by Jaxin Settlemires (Kossuth) stretched the lead to 9-6. Bo Rock (Amory) singled to score the game's final run and cap off the four run frame.

Rock and Settlemires lead the Indians offensively as they combined for eight RBI. Rock went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Settlemires went 2-for-4 and driving in four RBI.

Jackson Lee (Calhoun City) went 3-for-4 in the contest and drove in one run.

Verdung, who went 2-for-4 and drove in the eventual game winning run, picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-0 this season.

Game 2: Indians 5, Wolves 4

Despite the finale score, the game was more of a pitcher's duel than the first game of the day. The teams combined for only eight hits in the game. 

Two of the Indians' four hits came off the bat of Verdung, who picked up two RBI and hit a solo home run in the sixth, to cut the Wolves lead in half, 4-2. 

Rock hit a ground rule double to score a run and cut the lead to one, 4-3, and the Indians tied the game a sacrifice fly by Ben Davis (Booneville) to cap off the three-run sixth.

In the top of the seventh, an infield single by Settlemires scored Lee and gave the Indians the 5-4 advantage.

The Indians held off the Wolves in the bottom half to pick up the win and the sweep.

JW Armistead (Mooreville) threw a complete game and struck out seven while allowing only four hits and two earned runs.

Next up for the Indians in a conference doubleheader with East Mississippi Community College, who is coming off a split with No. 4 Pearl River, Wednesday in Fulton. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
