Indians win big over Calhoun

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College baseball stepped out of conference play Tuesday and picked up a big 17-5 win over Calhoun Community College.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second, the Indians (22-8, 9-5 MACCC) rallied to score six runs in the third and led the remainder of the game.

Matthew Martinolich (Ellisville) tied the game with a two-run scoring single [video] and Will Verdung (Corinth) followed with a RBI single to give the Indians a 3-2 lead [video].

Jaxin Settlemires (Kossuth) capped off the six-run frame with a three-run home run to left center field [video] to stretch the lead out to 6-2.

In the fifth, Jackson Lee (Calhoun City) singled in a run and scored on a wild pitch to give the Indians an 8-2 lead.

The Indians plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Verdung, Lee, and Settlemires hit RBI singles.

Dre McCray (Water Valley) hit a two-run home run [video] and Lee picked up his third RBI of the game in the seventh and Walt Gardner (Pontotoc) hit a three-run home run [video] in the eighth to cap off the big offense day.

The Indians jump back into conference play Friday when they travel to Copiah-Lincoln Community College for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Wesson.
