Indians overcome early deficit to defeat Mississippi Delta

Jackson, Miss. – Itawamba Community College baseball overcame and early 3-0 deficit to pick up a 5-4 win over Mississippi Delta in a non-conference game at Smith-Wills Stadium Wednesday.

The Indians (12-3) gave up three runs in the bottom of the first, but a four-run inning in the top of the fourth changed the game.

Eli Hancock (Houston) singled to score the Indians' first run and a sacrifice fly by Dre McCray (Water Valley) allowed Bo Rock (Amory) to score and cut the lead to one, 3-2.

Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) singled to bring in the tying run and later scored on a throwing error after avoiding the tag from the Trojans third baseman.

Hancock singled to score an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and it was needed as the Trojans hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the frame.

The Indians were able to record the final two outs to pick up the 5-4 win.

Saturday, the Indians will open conference play when they host No. 9 Meridian Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader that will feature a nine-inning game one and a seven-inning game two is set for 2 p.m. at Roy Cresap Field in Fulton. No concessions will be available as the BSU, who runs the stand, is on its Spring Break Mission Trip.
