Indians end Jones’ 12-game win streak

Jackson, Miss. – Two big innings propelled Itawamba Community College baseball to an 11-4 win to snap Jones College's 12-game win streak in a non-conference game at Smith-Wills Stadium Wednesday.

The Indians (11-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening frame and tacked on five runs in the final inning to pull away and secure the victory.

In the first inning, Matthew Martinolich (Ellisville) and Jackson Lee (Calhoun City) singled to drive in two runs and Will Verdung (Corinth) scored during a double play. Gray Bane (Olive Branch) scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

The Indians forced the Bobcats to strand five runners in the third and fourth innings, but the lead was cut in half, 4-2, in the fourth on a bases loaded walk and an a RBI single.

A RBI single by Bane, who went 3-for-3, and a sacrifice fly by Verdung got the two runs back for the Indians in the top of the fifth.

Matt Bourdon (Collierville, Tenn.) kept the 6-2 lead in tact by picking up a bases loaded strikeout in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bobcats would cut the lead to two runs, 6-4, again in the sixth but a big strikeout by Bo Rock (Amory) forced them to leave the bases loaded.

In the top of the seventh, the Indians got two runs on a sacrifice fly by Rock and a throw into the dugout. A squeeze play drove in another run and a two-run single by Martinolich finished the game's scoring.

Rock capped off the game striking out three in the bottom of the seventh.
